Q&A with soulful house music producer Maxinne

Releasing the original single  ‘Tell Me Something’ featuring vocalist Lauren L’aimant via Toolroom, noteworthy DJ and music producer Maxinne has shared a laidback version of the track. The two tracks against each other are almost unidentifiable if not for the lyrics and vocals. Stripping down the club atmosphere of the original we are instead picturing our next island getaway packed with tranquil days laying on the beachfront. Maxinne has rubbed elbows with some of the industries hottest personalities like Annie Mac, Eats Everything and Hot Since 82 in recent times. This latest offering breaks from the house mould that she has shaped her sound around and instead shows that Maxinne is not a one-hit wonder

We chatted with music producer Maxinne below.

Please describe your sound for us.

Tech House.

How did it all start for you?

From the day I got my first pair of decks I’ve been really dedicated to music because I have such a love for it. My first step into the scene was moving to London seven years ago from a small village on the South Coast.  I wanted to immerse myself more in the industry and learn how to DJ as I’ve always been really into music from early on. I taught myself how to mix when I moved to London and within six months I had my first gig at Pacha. After a year of DJ’ing, I was really curious about production, so I started learning this as well and absolutely loved it. To be able to create your own sound and see people enjoying your music is the best feeling. Each year things have built more and more, and I’m so excited for what’s to come!

Which three artists would you say made you want to create your own music?

I would say it’s more the sound from particular labels that really inspired me to create my own music. When I was getting into the industry and especially production I was listening to a lot of music released on Knee Deep In Sound, Saved Records, Toolroom Records all from various artists. I’m really pleased to have released my music on these labels as they’ve inspired me so much over the years.

What is your go-to gear/equipment when creating?

I absolutely love Arturia V Collection 8 it has so many amazing synths in there. I use it for most of my tracks at the moment!

What are some of your key influences in your music? Whether it be the sound created by others, imagery, films or any kind of art form.

Melodies and soulful vocals really influence my music and also the sounds from the ‘90s, I love stabs and 909 drums!

What is one sub-genre you think doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

I loved garage music growing up, so I think it would be amazing if it made a comeback. It’s soulful yet underground which is what really influences my sound.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar?

There’s a lot of amazing artists but to name a few; Franky Wah, Syreeta, Miane and Jo Poole.

What single night out has been the most memorable for you? As a performer? As an attendee?

As a performer – b2b with Mark Knight at Eden Ibiza. It was the closing party of the season, so was such a special night from start to finish!

As an attendee –  I’ve had the best nights at Amnesia in Ibiza, I love that club!

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

My debut album is set for release this Summer, so I’m really excited about that. Lockdown has enabled me to work on that plus loads more music that you will hear from me this year. I’ve also got an exciting tour schedule from July onwards and a big 3-week tour outside of the UK lined up for November which will be announced soon.
